Tribute & Message From The Family

Wendy Powel (nee McClea) of Limerick, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 10, 2020. She was 74 years old. Born November 22, 1945. She was the daughter of the late James and Phyllis (nee Koons) McClea and the beloved wife the late John Barry Hoey, and the late John Powel.

Wendy grew up in Havertown PA, and graduated from Haverford High School, Class of 1963. She would then move to Norristown PA where she would start her family. As she raised her children, Wendy held many jobs to include hairdresser, clothing factory worker, and eventually her 20+ year career at Heinz Food Company as a food manufacturer. She was very proud to have been the first woman forklift operator during her time at Heinz, where she held many different positions with the company and would eventually retire from.

Wendy enjoyed a variety of things in life. She was an avid reader, and loved classic music and movies from her era. Country/Western line dancing was also a wonderful talent of hers. She loved doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, gardening, stopping at yard sales, diner breakfasts with her dear friends, traveling, going to church, and most of all spending time with her beloved family. She lived, she loved, and she did it her way.

Wendy is survived by her three sons; Darrin M. Hoey, Sean M. Hoey (Kim) and Casey Hoey (Lori), two grandchildren; Liam and Cameron Hoey, two sisters; Doris Clark (Don) and Marian Howarth (Hugh) her brother Sam McClea (Robin), She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be a private, graveside service for Wendy at Riverside Cemetery at a time convenient for the family. A memorial celebration will be celebrated at a later date. Family services are by Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton.

It has been many years since I last saw Aunt Wendy - possibly our last family reunion, but she was always cheerful and fun loving. That is how I remember her. Our thoughts and condolences with you all and your families. Love, your cousin Susan Thurston (Marian's daughter).
