James F. Conroy, DO, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2016 at age 85. Born in Providence, RI, Jim was the son of Anna (Wall) and James F. Conroy. He resided in Blue Bell with his beloved wife of 21 years, Nancy (Nielson) Conroy.
Jim was the loving father of Mary Pat Conroy and Carol Conroy and was the cherished grandfather of Christopher Higgins and Jameson Finch. He is also survived by his sister Janet Farrell, and brothers, George Conroy and John Conroy.
Jim proudly served our Country in the US Army during the Korean War. He studied extensively graduating from both Rhode Island College of Pharmacy and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy. After Jim completed his internship, residency and fellowship, he practiced medicine at Philadelphia Osteopathic Hospital and Hahnemann Hospital. He started the Cancer Institute at Hahnemann Hospital and taught at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Hahnemann Medical College.
Jim was involved in medical research, published medical journals and books and retired in 1997 as Professor Emeritus. He was a respected clinician and teacher whose life was dedicated to his work in hematology and oncology. He was loved by colleagues and patients alike. He enjoyed many years of travel and family with his beloved wife Nancy and spent many fun hours with his grandchildren. Jim was a lover of all things Irish and Ireland.
Relatives and friends are invited to Jim's Life Celebration at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 W. Germantown Pike on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 6-8 PM and again Tuesday, November 29th, from 10-11 AM followed by his Funeral Service.
